MemberHello: I thought I’d give a bit of an introduction before posting much, on this wonderful forum. My name is Zac Sexton, and I am at the moment a guide for Joel Thompson of Montana Troutaholics/Rock Creek Cattle Company. That’s how I found out about the Itinerant Angler. Joel and Ron Snow are my bosses (for another few weeks) and they are such wonderful bosses ;). My biggest current project is trying to finish up a book I’ve been working on for a few years, generally titled: An Angler’s Photo-Illustrated Guide to Fly-Fishing for Cutthroat Trout. It’s a bit long, I know. But that’s what it is. I signed a contract with Jay Nichols of Headwater Books, and hope to have this baby finished by Jan. This book will be my first introduction to the world of fly-fishing, but I have been guiding and fishing for quite a few years.
The other project I work on is that I do a fly-fishing marathon every year for the past five. It’s called the Cuttie-thon, and is a fund-raising event for Cutthroat fisheries and to fund research to find a cure for diabetes. It doesn’t seem to go together, but I’m a native fish nut, and happen to have type I diabetes. You can check out info. at: http://www.cuttiethon.org, realizing I still need to update the site. :-[
I love making bamboo fly rods, photography, drawing/painting, and many other outdoor activities. I was raised in NE Wyo. in Buffalo, at the foot of the Bighorn Mountains, but have been travelling since high school and consider home, wherever I hang my waders to dry. I will be off on another adventure to finish photographing a couple chapters for my book, after leaving the “Ranch” outside of Deer Lodge, MT. I will be in UT, CA, WY, CO, OR, WA, ID, and probably back to MT or WY to settle in for the winter and finish my book. I will post photos and notes as I travel along, and hope you all enjoy them, as much as I enjoy taking photos and experiencing the journeys.
At any rate, I look forward to contributing and learning here on the IA!
In Wild Waters,
Zac Sexton

Me showing off a double that a friend and I caught on a trip a few days ago in a remote piece of western Montana. I caught the fish on the viewer’s left, and Andy Mo’ caught the one on the right. They are both Westslope Cutties. The rod is one I recently finished: 8’8″, 2 pc. 6 wt., hollow-built cane rod. She’s big for cane, but fun to fish!Oct 1, 2009 at 7:24 pm #39453Rick Marcum

MemberThanks for the warm welcomes! Cameron: we missed you and Mike this year. Hopefully next year, eh. And unfortunately 😉 Cameron has me thinking about trying the fiberglass rod. I’ve been casting a few of Sam Drukman’s prototypes on his new line of glass, at Sweetgrass. They are pretty sweet.
I just got back from fishing for five days, throughout western Mont, (thanks to my wonderful bosses…), and will report back soon. It was tough fishing, and frickin’ cold and windy most the time, but it was fun, for sure. Thanks again for being so kind ;D.
Zac
