Spent the past weekend up on the Muskegon in Michigan to attend a spey clave. The clave had a great turn out this year and got to meet a lot of spey junkies, even some guys that are certified two-handed casting instructors. Played with a lot of different lines and rods up there as well since all the big companies were there. I’m really getting into using Scandinavian systems which I’m liking better then the skagit systems.
The coolest thing about the clave was Dec Hogan came to give a demonstration. After watching him cast and talking to him about fishing for steelhead, he is more on top of the game then any one I know. I will even go as far to say that I was more impressed with Dec then I was when I meet Simon Gawesworth a few years back. I have attached a few pics below of Dec casting. I picked up a copy of his book ” A Passion for Steelhead” which I was lucky enough to have signed by Dec. I must say that only after reading through a small part of it, it is a must have for every steelhead angler. Granted the focus is on chasing fish with the two-hander, the amount of info on steelhead habits is amazing.
Had to add this picture for the Tibor guys to salivate over. I need to just by this dang thing already.
