New Rain Gear

I just sold my hoodless kayak dry top and am selling an orvis tailwaters jacket on ebay. Preparing for a week of salmon/steelhead fishing on the Salmon River, Ny in a few weeks.

What I look for in rain gear is a waterproof wrist (latex gasket), hood, breathability, and packability, and space for me to layer underneath.

Zach posted the Loop jacket a while ago (topic was based on its color pattern) but I couldn’t find one in price range.

I picked up these two online last week as my packable jacket if it might rain:

the patagonia has some interesting wrist cuffs. they are 1/3 velcro and jacket material and 2/3 latexy material. the tighter you fasten the velcro, the tigher the water seal on your wrist.

I’m looking at the Marmot offerings too, although I am real partial to Patagonia, as they have been good to me over the years and I have had nothing but good experiences with their service dept and products.

I’m basically looking for a three season jacket that I can layer under and something that is durable.

I have a marmot shell that is top notch. It has all the bells and whistles I like in a shell (articulated hood, pit zips, arm pockets, chest pocket/vent, internal water bottle holder, powder guard, zip in liner)

I can zip in a down vest to keep torso warm yet arms not weighed down or sip in a full fleece.

The thing is, I would not wear it fishing all day in the rain.
Marmot even fixed the broken front zipper (2 times)

But the thing is, I would not wear it in an absolute downpour or wading.

we were at the ski chalet chantilly sale last week. they are not going to sell arc’teryx anymore so ALL of it was 40% off.

i couldn’t convince the wife to buy a bunch and sell it for $50 more per item or so on ebay.

Probably because they stopped manufacturing in Canada and shipped it all to China.
