My fishing partner and I headed for the Shenandoah National Park last Sunday to do a little blue-lining for wild brookies.

Made the 4 1/2 hour drive to Big Meadows, set up camp and gathered up our gear. Our first stop was at Dark Hollows Falls. It was there we found out that we made the trip in vain.

Seems like all this rain we’ve been getting this past weekend in the southeast would have made a difference in SNP.

We haven’t gotten any significant rainfall since early summer. I have been avoiding fishing the park for a little while now. It sometimes amazes me that those little guys are able to make it up there. Especially on the west slope.

That’s the way the park looks this time of year pretty much every year. Come back in spring, you’ll be amazed.

Don’t worry, White Oak has plenty more trout than that. You just have to go past the parking lot pool.
