MemberPlayed with the new Sage rods today and must say pretty impressed with all the new lines, in particular the one replacing the Launch. Not to mention the awesome soft goods they have coming out.

MemberMike I have a few of the new Xi3’s and one of the 99’s, a 5 weight. This rod really impresses me, I think its going to be a GREAT rod for New Zealand nymphing. I think its also going to be sensational for single spey as it roll casts so beautifully, it loads in the middle and lower down which is what makes a great roll casting rod.
I’ve cast the Xi3’s next to the TCX’s and one Xi2 in the 10 weight. Have not fished with them yet, plan to do that next week. Cosmetically they’re a step up, Fuji Alconite stripping guides are progressive and the new reel seat is very sweet with raised locking rings that are well knurled. They cast beautifully although the TCX’s are my preferred implements at this stage. The 10 weight is a half ounce lighter than its predecessor and is even lighter than the TCX!!! Strap a 6010 on it and it feels like an 8 weight. The swing weight is heavier however, a legacy of their quite different taper designs.

MemberI wondered about the 99’s since there isn’t anything anywhere about them that I could find on the net. I got the 10wt TCX this year and I like it for pulling Stripers out of wood but I’m a bigger fan of the Xi2 action for casting all day. I’ll be ordering a couple Xi3’s next week to replace two that were stolen. Can’t decide on which two but I’m looking hard at the 11 and the 8.
The Sage boat bag will be in my boat as soon as they become available. Very nice!
Morsie how do you like the 6000 reels?

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

Memberthe 9wt XI3 reminded me of an RPLX as far as the action. It was obviously much lighter but very stiff

MemberI’ll be interested to see the Sage Launch replacement. Love the Launch. It’s one of the few moderately priced rods out there with a sweet moderate/moderate-fast action. I hope Sage keeps that action in the new rod and does not make it too fast.

noneMemberI’ve never understood why Sage still has the old stuff on their web site when their new stuff is all over the internet…

MemberTheir website gets reloaded on or around October 1, which is the start of their fiscal year

noneMemberBut this happened when the TCX was launched I remember. Maybe in previous periods as well, can’t remember.
Sage is THE premium fly rod brand. Why do they let their website lag behind their own news?

MemberFor one the focus right now is for the show. They have also been busy getting the products to the reps to show to their clients.

Exactly, the website update comes after this near the start of the fiscal year. The release and getting the new product in customers hands has always came ahead having customers only being able to view the new stuff on the website, at least ever since I’ve been a dealing their stuff. No big deal really, the customer is the most important.

MemberOne of the main reasons is so new product won’t be “introduced” on web to public before dealers see it at September trade show, and can thus talk more intelligently about that product to customers.
And for the (dealers) to order.
