MemberI am finally going to buy a head lamp for low light and night fishing. I’ve seen lots of guys using them of course but I haven’t done the research on what type to buy and/or what’s a good brand, etc. Any advice?

MemberI bought a Petzl Taktikka for a recent trip to chase Gila Trout, and this light did not disappoint. I have always stuck with Petzl, but this new model is the Duck’s Nuts. It has four colored lenses, and it has four different power settings, along with strobe. I bought mine at BP for around $55, but you might have them throw it in the box the next time you get something to read.

MemberI like one that has an on/off switch with a red LED option as well. Some of them you have to push four or five times to turn off, each push is a different light setting. It’s a pain when you just want a quick light. My next one will have a on/off switch.

MemberI’ll second what Mike said about the Surefire, I have one that I keep on a lanyard that came with a hunting call I got and just keep it tucked down into my waders.

MemberNeal, no need for a ziplock that light is built like a tank.
I agree Zach I’m going to just get a couple of the really cheap wal mart headlamps with a switch. About $9 I think.

Go micro so you don’t spook fish.

MemberThanks Zach. I really like the look of the diamond model. I believe that head lamp plus the Surefire flashlight would be a perfect setup.
Here’s a question for fly tiers – which model of head lamp above – the diamond ion or the Petzi – would be best for tying in low light?
By the way, I am also going to use this setup at work so I think the Petzi might be a better choice and offer more light. However, that micro lamp for just $20 is a great option for the water.
I also saw this Browning hat clip lamp at BP http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10209333_325007002_325000000_325007000?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT

Roy ConleyMemberWhen selecting a light, I keep reminding myself that one of its uses will be seeing well enough to wade back to the bank and walk back to the truck through the woods at night.

MemberEveryone has provided some great input here.
Petzl or Princten Tech ….I’m eyeballing a SureFire at the moment.

">http://www.surefire.com/headlampsRight now I’m loving the Petzl “TACKIKKA XP ADAPT”. This specific model in the series provided me what I was personally looking for. (note: I remove the ‘overhead’ strap)
Side note: This entire ‘TACIKKA series’ is specifically designed for different mounts… headlamp, clip it onto your visor, shirt pocket, pack strap, etc. The ‘XP’ just offers more power…. and the brightness of the red lens is perfect ; )
Let us know what you go with.

MemberThanks everyone for the wonderful advice. I went with the Petzl® TacTikka® XP LED Headlamp http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_90031. This will do just about everything I need. Great responses.
Zach . . . that is a great shot of Lauren.
