I have been hesitating to post much about this trip until everything actually came together.  The stars have aligned for me and I have the opportunity to spend about 2 months on the road chasing fins all over the American west.  I’m currently in the process of loading up, and, barring unforeseen catastrophe, will be hitting the road Thursday morning.

    The vehicle:

    The water:
Blackfoot, Clark’s Fork, Beaverhead, Ruby, Big Hole, Madison, Gallatin, Lamar, Slough, Yellowstone, Snake, Grey’s, Henry’s Fork, etc….

I’ve already made plans to meet up with a couple fellow IAers, and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped me put together information for this trip.

    David,

Don’t worry, I have been salivating at the thought of getting those hoppers wet ever since they arrived.

    Git r’ done Tim!

Looks like you’ve got the perfect troutmobile. Is it air-cooled?

    I look forward to plenty-o-pitchers.  🙂

I am assuming you’re driving from Michigan.

Why isnt the Bighorn on that list?  Hit that baby first and start your trip on a good note.  Rent a boat from Cotton Wood camp – no need to worry about shuttles or anything.  They’ll take care of it for you.

Tim, you need to add the bighorn to that list.

    Tim,

Send me a PM when you get a chance. I will be out here in Victor and could point you towards a couple of the must-fish rivers. Henry’s Fork, Snake, South Fork, Teton etc. Give me a shout.

Steve, yes, the bus is air cooled.  My Dad and I put in the wrench time to rebuild the engine about 4 years ago, and I took it on a trip from Michigan to Glacier NP, down to RMNP, and then back to Michigan.  4600 miles total, about 4 quarts of oil, ran out of gas once (gas gauge doesn’t work), and broke down once (Rapid City, SD).  All in all, a great trip.  This upcoming trip should put that one to shame though.

Mark, I already have both a basic tool kit and my VW manual packed. I’m crossing my fingers. ;D

Tim, I just added the Big Horn to the list.  How could I leave it off the list when you drop a picture of a pig like that?  Thanks for the suggestion.  It will be a nice place to stop and get some fishing in before heading across the remainder of Montana.  What are the walk wade options on the Big Horn?  I’m thinking of doing part of a day walk wading (whatever portion of the day is left when we arrive in Fort Smith) and then rent a boat for a day.

Jim and Mike, PM sent.  Thanks for the info!

Corey, can’t wait to meet up!

Look forward to seeing some pictures! i returned from the Jackson, wy Monday. We fished the snake for 2 days and a few creeks for a day or so, you should have some decent “fish on foam” action right now
