Jon boat question

Has anyone here ever put oars on a jon boat and used it like a traditional drift boat? The reason I ask is I have been floating the lower flint in my kayak for a couple of years and love it but I feel like it would be great floating it with friends in a drift boat like the trout guys do? I couldn’t see buying a drift boat because thats the only thing I would use it for but I would like to buy a 14′ or so jon boat and a little 9.9hp engine to be able to fish the river and be able to take it on other trips. and advise would be much appreciated.

Plenty of people do it out west here with smaller jet boats.

People use them to float the Delaware River trout water in the Catskills, although everyone I’ve seen do it rows with their back toward the bow.
