Mark SchaferMemberI have the chance to become a Nucanoe dealer I have never paddled or seen one of there boats. I’m looking for some input from any of you that might own or have used one, good or bad.

MemberMark,
It seems that the current trend, and for good reason I would think, is Native hybrids. With all of the room you have at the shop, I think you should become a full line dealer of Natives!Jun 18, 2009 at 1:59 pm #37121Michael Exl
MemberMark,
We carry them in the shop over here. I’ve fished from them a couple of times. Pretty neat boats with all the different set up you can have. I found that the larger boat is the best option for the larger amount of space it has. The one complaint people have about the boat is its weight. I believe the larger boat is over 70lbs. The neat think is that you can stand up in these guys pretty easy. It’s no Freedom Hawk though.

Mark SchaferMemberDusty,
The biggest problem that I have is finding companies that are in my ballpark for minimums and inventory.
Although having a few natives around here would make thing more interesting ;D. I have room for maybe 2 boats in here but I thought 1 leaning outside would be a good draw. The only real paddling shop here just went under last winter there could be a void to fill.Mike,
The Freedom Hawk rep was here last fall nice boats but tough to sell to other paddlers than fishing folks.
also when Dusty finally makes it up here to the beautiful Midwest as promised, we’ll have to head your way for some of those carp waters over there.Jun 18, 2009 at 3:44 pm #37123Michael Exl
MemberMark,
Yeah, that’s the advantage of the Nucanoe its easy to sell to a wide range of people. It also helps that we have a total of 5 kayak brands in the shop to sell. Is Darkes the rep for Freedom Hawk for you?

Mark SchaferMemberYea Mike, Jerry’s my rep for them and a host of other stuff, but I don’t see him very often. I would bet I’m the smallest customer he has.

Mark SchaferMemberWell guys looks like I’m going to go with Nu Canoe the main reason is they are more geared toward smaller dealers and I will have most of the upper half of Ohio and the lower part of Michigan I’m not going to infringe on the area that you guy’s cover Mike, hopefully if the time

Joel ThompsonMemberMark,
Ron Snow is a NuCanoe dealer and that is the boat we use here at the ranch. They are a little on the heavier side but VERY stable which is why we use them. I just told Ron about this post so I am sure he will be able to tell you lots more!

Mark SchaferMemberThanks for the encouragement Ron that’s the kind of information I needed. I was a little concerned about the weight at first but I don’t see 70 lbs as a Hugh deal. I deal with a lot of duck hunters and think this will be a good fit with them. I haven’t talked with Blake as of yet but the regional guy (Joe) that I talk with is in line with what I’m looking for, and I like the small retailer plan that they have. I did have a chance to talk with the area guy with Native and did not like the way the do business. I will be getting my first boat next week,so I’m looking forward to doing a float trip for some carp and smallies on the Maumee here soon. I do have a local pond near me to do some demos.
So how did the fish tricking go today..?

MemberFish tricking was good, but not great. Half dozen brownies in the creek on streamers.

Mark SchaferMemberWater is real high here also which also means it’s the color of creamed coffee could be a week before it’s clear enough to put the boat on the water.
One of my goals every year is to catch a Steelhead on a floater still hasn’t happened but I keep trying. Fishing dry’s and floaters is very seductive but it’s -
