I’m joining my wife on a business trip to Paris in June, other than going to the Paris air show with her, I will be on my own to explore, eat, and drink, and drink…
    .
Other than reading ‘fly fishing the 41st’ I know nothing about French or Parisian fly fishing.

Are there fly shops in Paris that anyone would suggest I stop by-for advice, shopping, getting a hat for my buddy Tom?
Any spots along the river to hang out with/watch fisherman, be it bait or fly?

    Merci

Didn’t Prosek talk about fishing for silure along the banks of whatever river it is that runs right by Notre Dame?

That river is the Seine and IIRC he was using spinning tackle to catch giant European catfish, Silurus glanis.

There are lots of good flyfishing rivers in France but the seine ain’t one of them at Paris. If you have the use of a car overthere it is possible to get to some of the fishing rivers.

I’m fishing the Verdon in the south of France in June. Many dutch guys go to france to fish trout.

so i’ve got just over a week till we take off.
i plan on taking a 9’6wt with floating line. i’ll take some split shot in lieu of a sink tip/line. probably just take some clousers, damsel nymphs, brassies, and a top water bug. some of my standard search patterns.

i’ve got the above mentioned locations printed out with maps to/from our hotel.

as mark s. knows, my back has been having a rough couple of months so we’ll see how i fare walking the city with camera + fishing gear in my daypack.

Rob, unless you’re going to be able to get out of Paris for a couple of days dedicated to fishing, I would leave the fly fishing stuff at home and just enjoy the city.

    bill,

as much as i dont’ want to lug around gear and deal with it on the plane and on my back, i’d rather put up with it than be with out. its like being with out “protection”. you go out with it and no luck. you return from albie fishing and go to a party with out it and the girls are all over you.  🙁

for example, i’ve learned my lesson from the past: we were on a zodiac around kauai on our honeymoon. captain said ‘there won’t be room on the boat for your gear and no time/place to fish’. we get to the lunch spot (and there was plenty of space on the boat- enough for our friend’s boyfirend to store all his clothes and be butt neked the whole day  :o, droped anchor, and low and behold, 20lb trigger fish fare everhwyere on the surface and fed top water for potato chips.  >:(

and having a broken 8wt in africa in ’98 with 4′ catfish eating olive bread off the surface of a river makes me want to travel with several rods  🙂

i’ll bet dollars to donuts in 2 weeks that you were 100% correct  🙂

only kauai pic i have now that was taken close to lunch spot:

here is the wife swimming with trash can lid sized fish

    what a great trip.
managed to put fishing gear in wife’s checked luggage, took a risk and had my rod in the sock so to speak.

ate macroons from laudre at a pond on the champs and saw some HUGE carp rolling.

ate and drank and ate and drank.

made it to the seine this past sunday. the fishing shop/school was closed so i slipped a card under their door and moved on. wanted to fish the island point near there but there were nudy sun bathers and not the kind you want to see.

wife and i sat by the pond at jardin du luxenberg. there were carp. couldn’t break out the rod so i tied a damsel nymph to some mono and made a cuban yo-yo. hooked one and it fell off.

met up with a childhood friend and bar hopped from the garden to the seine. we went to pont neuf (9th bridge) near notre damme and drank beer and smoked cigars on the bank. broke out the rod and fished without expecting to catch anything. didn’t catch a fish. it was just nice to be out with old friends and having a drink in paris.

i’ll convert pics to a url that this site will allow and get up soon.
