Membernot to hijack your thread mike, but for those of us not blessed with the traverse bay flats, does anyone have any pointers on how to locate carp?

InactiveI sleep very well at night knowing that the last two major championships that have been awarded reside in Pittsburgh. (other than last nights NBA…this league does not count)

MemberRegan,
I would look at areas where there are downed logs. Carp love to hide in places like that. Mud flats are great as well. Check the edges of the river, especially after a rain. I have landed just shy of 200 carp this year, and none have been from a boat as well. I think I have only landed 3 carp ever from a boat. If you wade slowly and walk lightly on the bank you should have no problem.

MemberHere is a question for those who know carp. There are a ton of huge carp right now eating algae off the boulders around the pier. How would you approach these fish as far as flies. They seem pretty happy eating the thick grassy algae.
Bow and arrow.

I’ve run into a similar situation on the creeks, where the carp are eating algae off logs. I found that a fly close to the color of the algae, but slightly off, in most cases light olive, draws there attention. You have to but the fly right on there nose though, within a foot or less.
