    Hello Board,
I may be in Denver in October and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to fish?

JT – If you are willing to drive 90 minutes and hike a mile or so, I’d highly recommend Rocky Mountain National Park. $20 gets you into the park for a week and there is tons of places to fish for wild CO trout (including the greenback cutthroat).

I’ve posted a few trip reports from the Park on this forum. Here are the links:

    JT,

The South Platte is relatively close to Denver, while the Frying Pan is not.

uThanks guys. I’m open to driving for about 5 hours each way. At this point I’m by myself and I don’t get to do roadtrips often so I don’t mind. Plus it would be new country to see. I’m ok to get a guide for a day if it’s recommended. I’m also interested in a one day float trip so factor that in as well.  I would prob do two days of fishing, one guided and one on my own. My main goal would be to get a good western trout experience and to catch some fish.  I’m open to any river.

Getting way too excited about this for June ;D but I have two little ones so I don’t get out enough!

With 5 hours you can reach a bunch of really good places.

Here’s a cooooool trip i did it when i was out there for two months… 1st things first, get a delormme gazetteer….then head out from denver south towards colorado springs, very west and shoot for deckers… park there and hike into the cheeseman cannon fish that a day or two…then head west towards buena vista… you can fish the arkansas a day or so, or explore high mountain lakes in the area, then shoot over the pass, check out the collegiate peaks, and fish the taylor…technical yes…but that trip from denver to deckers, deckers to buena vista, then over the divide to taylor is AWESOME and breathtaking…and you’ll get into som good fish as well…

I would definitely consider making the drive over to Glenwood Springs and/or Basalt and float the Roaring Fork or Colorado and wade the Frying Pan. It shouldn’t be as crowded that time of year and the weather should be fine. Also, you will be in the middle of some of the most beautiful country in the state. This area allows you your choice between three of the best rivers in the entire state. You can get on all three in the time you will be there. Which ever way you go, enjoy and have a great time!

Depends what you’re into? A number of choices from:
1)laney Buttes in North Park, big fish, nice scenary, few crowds, camping and can catch fish easily from shore if no boat.
    2) Frying Pan is always hot that time of year but so are the crowds, great place and you’ll probably see me there.
    3) Dream Stream (south platte-south park)
Can be very hot also this time of year but many people, big bruisers moving in
    4) Gray Reef-North Platte, incredible place and even better with a boat
