So, I’m obviously new to this fish species… If you were catching pike from a canoe would having a net along help much? I presently own a Brodin Ghost Series Gallatin Net which is 8″ wide by 16″ long and has a single hand handle. Seems a bit underpowered for such a big fish…

I’ve fought alot of Musky out of a 12 foot Sportspal canoe. If your unfamiliar with the brand, tthink flat bottom, wide beam and hard to tip

One thing I rarely did was try to bring them into the canoe. Good pair of pliers and wet release them. These days alot of people use cradles.

You should bring a jaw spreader and some long Hemo’s to get the fly out!

Agree-Lots of 4-10# Pike from a float tube.  Enjoy the ride.  Just remember to put a tether on the jaw spreaders–Pike wiggle alot-bring along some band-aids as well.

I like using the Boga Grip for pickerel and pike.  I’d leave the net at the house.

(Even the small ones got “teef”)

You can get a firm grip on the jaw if you slide in youre fingers just behind the gillplate (think thats what it’s called). Best is ofcourse the wet release

Thanks guys! Sounds like wet releasing via a jaw grip and long hemo’s is the answer.
