MemberMy brother, mother, wife, et al and I will be converging somewhere in south-central or south-eastern Colorado for five days over the Christmas Holiday. I am looking for a one-stop-shop basically. Obviously I want to fish, the girls want to shop, and my brother will want to snowboard. does anyone know of anyplace to get guided trips, some fresh powder, and everything else we will need without shelling out 1K per week? If need be, the girls can sacrifice their shopping time if the locale you have in mind is not necessarily a shopper’s dream.
And some Cuttie or Brookie action would be a definite bonus!
Thanks in advance.
Dusty

MemberFor me, Summit County is where to go during the winter for all of what you want. 4 Ski resorts, the Blue River tailwater stays ice free all year for 1-2 miles and it is right behind some of the best outlet malls in the state. let the fam shop while you sight fish in the low flows for some large trout, they can watch from the foot bridge. you can also head up to the colorado river if it is ice free.

Cameron MortensonMemberDusty…my suggestion is the same as Lee’s. Did this trip a couple of years ago and posted a thread about it here…

It didn’t take to long before the discussion lead to the tour at New Belgium Brewing. I’d recommend a day trip to The Fort and knock out tours at O’Dell Brewing and New Belgium Brewing. A day well spent for sure…and there is some shopping in the historic downtown area of the city too!

Membersummit county indeed
you have shopping in silverthorne which has everything from the outlet store to some big box shops, and the down town window shopping in frisco, window shopping up in breck, and some more in keystone.
fish the tailwaters: blue below dillon, blue below green mountain, dream stream below spinney, elevenmile below elevenmile res.
you can also drive west up to the frying pan.
i fish, wife skis. we both leave in the morning and meet up for apre-ski around 3-4 in breck. good times.

MemberGreat stuff guys! I was able to convince the family to see it my way…Now for another question: Where should I house 5 adults while in Silverthorne?
Thank you,

Tim AngeliMemberDusty,
There are TONS of rental condos in the Silverthorne area.

MemberTim-
I am certain you are right, but I was more specifically wondering if anyone had any favorites, places they really enjoy being for various reasons.
Thanks,

Tim AngeliMemberDusty,
Sorry, I didn’t mean to seem short in my response, just merely meant that there are a lot of places there to choose from.

Cameron MortensonMemberDusty…Breckenridge has a lot of lodging options. We’ve stayed at the Breckenridge Main Street Station a few trips ago. It was a really nice place and the location was perfect for skiing, finding food, and the Breckenridge Brewery is just across the street.
We’ve stayed at Copper Mountain the next year and there are many options there.
Oh…for a simple place in Frisco with great rates we’ve stayed at The Hotel Frisco a couple of times.

MemberTim,
No need for apologies; I did not take it that way. If I had things my way, I would chose lodgings based on fishing, but I have others to consider as well. WE are trying to stay out of Breck as we heard it is quite a bit more costly than the surrounding areas. I just wanted to get some names of some places you guys have been so I can call and see what is available and if I am willing to pay their price. Thanks for your help, seriously. I have never been there, so anything y’all offer will be very helpful.Cameron,
Thanks for the names and suggestions. I am sure my brother and I will be spending some quality “family time” in the breweries. Maybe while I am there I will fill out some applications 😉Dusty

Cameron MortensonMemberDusty…you’ve got one of those tag along friends too?
May 28, 2009 at 1:57 am #36487dusty montgomery
MemberSeems that way Cameron. But Chad is not yet house broken, ergo I have reservations about bringing him around my mother and wife. I suppose I could always let him stay with the dogs! Chad is, as well, good to have in fish camp…just don’t know about his manner capabilities. Being a Southerner you understand; One has to be very strict about the ruffians one allows in the company of his woman-folk.
