With all this small boat talk I thought I’d post a photo of the Native Ultimate 14.5 Tandem that I picked up yesterday at River Runner in downtown Columbia, SC.  They were a great shop to work with on the purchase and did an excellent install on the rudder kit.

    (Neal…notice…iPhone photo.

    Cameron,

Great looking ride.  I am sure you are going to enjoy it.  Here’s the next challenge — we want to see you standing and fishing from that Ultimate.

Good for you Cameron! I knew you would end up getting one. I am looking to get one as well, in July. But I am swaying between the tandem or two singles. After all, sometimes is good to be alone. Let us know your thoughts on the new yak!

Mike…no photos of it…but I was standing within the first five minutes while on the pond yesterday morning.

    Bob…thanks for the comment.

Good points, guys. Would the 14.5 be harder to maneuver than the 12, or is the difference negligible? good looking ride, Cameron!

Dusty…I think that the difference in minimal though the 14.5 feels just right to me as a solo and not cramped as a tandem.

Thanks Cameron. I will look into renting one locally, but if not I might have to come see you for a while 🙂

Longer kayaks typically are faster and track better that shorter models but are slightly less manueverable.

Thanks Bob! I imagine most of my use would be on lakes, or flats as well, so I do no think the small loss of maneuverability would be that tragic for me.

Wow, I never would have guessed you got that first shot with the iPhone.

Neal…as you know…the iPhone takes surprisingly great photographs.
