Zach comes down to South Africa to catch monster Tigers, he buggers off to the Okavango and hires a guide for a day, but catches nothing, the next day hires a different guide, and still nothing the third day another guide, and still nothing. Each day he flogged the water, turning it into the froth onto of a good cappuccino, and even though his casting arm was sore, he was persistent.
So the next day he hired another guide, this time the guide took him deep into the swamp and told him not to cast until he was told. They poled around for a few minutes and then the guide pointed at a spot right next to the reeds and said, “11 o’clock, 40 feet…” Zach fired the cast and the fly wasn’t even wet yet, when the biggest, strongest, meanest Tiger you have ever dreamed about smacked that thing so hard, it felt like the earth was shaking…
Zach fought it like a pro and 10 minutes later the guide was taking photos…
The guide then found a comfy spot on the back of the boat and settled in for a snooze and Zach continued to catch monster fish.
At the end of the day, the guide charged Zach $2250.00, and of course he threw his toys right out of the cot. “The other guides only charged me $250.00, what the hell, you took me to one place and then went to sleep!!!”
“That’s right, my boat hire fee is $200.00, and the gas was another $50.00, knowing where to cast, $2000.00”
The price of experience…
