Does anyone have experience with fishing mouse (or other waking) patterns during the day?  Can this be a productive method for targeting trout?  I’m well aware (although not well experienced) with the results of nighttime mousing for big browns, but I’m wondering if similar results can be obtained from fishing the same patterns during the day.  I’ve seen and read numerous accounts of this being a productive method on certain rivers in Alaska, Kamchatka, and N.Z., but have not heard anything outside of those places.

I’ve been tying up an armada of mice to try out this summer, and will likely give it a shot during the day as well as at night.

I caught (did not land) a HUGE trout on a sunken whitlock mouse on the dream stream in colorado in the daytime.

Tom caught and broke off a trout on the same pattern in the afternoon on the Little J in pennsylvania in 2000. The trout broke his 3x leader about 3 feet from the fly.

No luck on foam mouse yet.

    Tim,

I after caught brown trout on the mouse during the day on several occasions. I think it works best from a boat when you are covering a little more water. I also think it works better when the water is a little high and a little off color or at least that has been my experience.
Remember you need to believe so talking in a Mickey Mouse voice saying things like “help me” and “oh nooo I fell in the river what ever will I do” seem to really help with that. 😉

I think the main idea is that generally speaking big browns feed at night and rest during the day.

I have caught many trout on water that holds bass and trout using mice on the banks in the middle of the day.
