MemberYesterday I had to have my Bassett Hound Dixie “put down”. It was a sad day. I share this with you all because the breast cancer that killed my dog probably wouldn’t have happened if she had been spayed before she reached old age. If you have a female dog and you are not interested in having puppies get them spayed and especially when thier past their prime. Dixie lived to be quite old she was 13. I believe she could have made 14 maybe 15 if she had been spayed.

MemberDavid,
Sorry bro, my condolences. I have not been there, yet. But I guess those of us whom love dogs all will. I had mine spayed last month; she was just over six months old. Thirteen years is a good amount of time, but I know in the end it never seems to be enough. To Dixie!

MemberSorry to hear about the loss of your family member. I lost my dog of 14 years, 2 years ago and I am still not the same. It was one of the toughest moments in my life, not to have her around anymore. For me the pain has eased, but it will never go away. I was finally able to love another dog 6 months ago when I got another sidekick, but it is a different love for sure.

MemberVery sorry to hear about your loss…it’s never an easy thing and I lost My dear Zeke http://flyfishaddiction.com/Dog_Folder.htmllast Fall and I still think of him daily.
I am in the Pet business and do think it’s tough to spay them later as problems occur so if possible do when younger by age 6 mo’s but it does happen later in life due to other reasons so very sorry that this happened to your Pet…

Allan DozierMemberGrant, neutering a male dog will make him a better pet and while it will have a beneficial effect at any time it is better to do it in the same 4 to 6 months of age so he doesn’t develop any of the bad habits to begin with.
I plan on living forever, so far so good.

MemberThat is so tough to lose a beloved dog. We lost our 16 year old Corgi last year. He was one of the family and helped us raise our 2 kids. We had to have him put down when his arthritis got so bad he wasn’t able to walk very well. That was one of the toughest and saddest days of my life. We were all 4 with him at the end though. I feel for what you are going through.
