MemberI thought I’d end the winter with one last report from a few of weeks ago (around the beginning of March). We had just gotten a fresh layer of spring snow. Its snowing today, if you can believe it!
No big trip this time. Just a nice day on a river I love. The “W” is a beautiful river that I have gotten to know fairly well over the years, but always proves to have “a little more” all the time. With the public use easement is in effect I have been able to do a little more exploring. Its been fantastic being able to explore these new areas!
My buddy Pat has been tying up a ton of soft hackles lately and we were able to get out and put them to use a couple weeks ago. Sometimes you ask yourself .. “Why have I not been doing this for years?” This was one of those days out.
It was hell getting there .. The snow was soft and slick. We both got stuck and had to dig about 3 times. I slid off into a ditch, but thats nothing that a spare oar and a tow rope cant handle!

We worked our way up the holes picking off rising fish …

We got some magnificent fish throughout the day, but this bad boy of Pats took the prize! I think it went just over 22″

Got a nice shot with some water flying off the tail of this brown right after the release.

All in all we had to put in some real work digging and hiking to get to the spot we wanted to fish.. But it payed off.

MemberCor,
GREAT shots as always!!! Love the “tail splash”
Any insight to fishing the soft hackles?
Quarter up-stream and let it swing? Were they hitting on the swing?? Looks like whatever you were doing it was working OR the ‘MAN” just decided since you put so much effort into the day you deserved it!!! Ha Ha!!!
Later!

Chad SimcoxMemberAwesome shots, fun conditions. I always liked fishing in the snow when I was in Colorado. Just have to watch out for ice chunks flowing down river. Great job with the softhackles, it’s been too many years since I’ve fished them.
I can’t believe all the late spring snow thats been coming through. A friend of mine got stuck in LA for 3 days because of the blizzard in Denver. Talked to my ex-girl in D last night and she said it had already snowed again since the blizzard hit.http://society6.com/grainfarmer Fly Fishing and Landscape open edition Photography prints.

Kalvin: I’ve never really been into softhackles, until this spring … Tons-O-Fun! Yeah, quarter upstream and let it swing. the were taking on the swing … Give it a tiny bit of a strip and WHAM! We worked our way up that hole for about 2 hours and 15 fish.
Chad: Yeah, the weather has been way crazy this year!

MemberCool report and pics as usual!
No snow here, but we got 2.5″ hail stones at the house last week! Gonna have to replace the roof and fix one of the cars 😛
