Mike McKeownMemberI am no expert and what I say here might be way off, but what I have read and heard goes like this…
Sunblock is an iffy one, anything over spf 15 really is’nt much more effective than the next, kind of like a reverse curve. The changes and effectiveness of SPF 1 to SPF 2 is quite easily established, and relatively large, but between 15 and 16 it is not.
The higher the SPF, the less the difference… thus anything over 15 will do the job pretty well, 25 is excellent, but there is little reason to go over 30’ish…
I once read a very interesting article on this whole debate and where its going, and why… most of us know why, marketing, that’s it… most at 25 or up are good as the next. The trick is to find the best for you.
The article ended with a nice little tag line…
Now that the Ozone is gone, use the new SPF 1000

Chad SimcoxMemberThis past summer I always borrowed my friend’s spray on sun screen when we went to the beach. Unfortunately it was 70spf and I was still embarrassingly white for a SoCal resident at the end of summer.

MemberI agree with you Zach. As far as sunscreens go, it’s hard to beat the Neutrogena products.
I use the “oil free” as it goes on and wears more comfortably than any other. In fact, once you put it on, you forget it’s there…..and it works extremely well.
Bull Frog is good too but you feel it on you.
I will not allow any Banana Boat products in my boat for obvious reasons, so if you bring it, it goes in the dump and your left with my boat sunscreen, which is usually bottles left by past clients.
Good topic for those of us who spend a lot of time in the sun and are bound to spend money at the dermatologist.

MemberHave you tried the Bull Frog gel?

MemberYea,I’ve tried them all.
It might just be a personal thing. Maybe you should try the Neutrogena “oil free” and see if it’s just me. It’s undetectable once it’s on.

MemberNeutrogena has a SPF 90 advertised on their web site, but I haven’t seen it available anywhere yet. Check it out:

MemberWe use the Neutrogena while sailing. It’s pricey, but it’s great stuff. One application lasts 6 hours of high sun exposure and reflectivity with no problems.

MemberI’m a fan of the Neutrogena stuff too, but it’s awful tough to find up here (Maine) right now.
I’m leaving for Costa Rica in the morning, and I had to look all over creation to find a single tube of 55 hiding at the local drugstore.
I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for the 90 this summer.

MemberSo my eyes are the only ones that burn (when using neutrogena) like crazy when sweat kicks in?

Membermy wife already looks like she’s been painted with white paint – is that redundant?
she is one pale chick. spf 90 would do the same as spf 4.
and for her it does not matter what spf, she always burns -thus i’m teaching her to cover up all exposed skin. i’m going to get a canopy for dc united tailgates this summer just to keep her protected.
-she drove people all around dc the day before our wedding with her arm out the window. she came home with a cooked lobster colored left arm and a casper looking right arm. i was livid
moral of the story: if you mail order a wife, don’t get a pasty russian one

MemberRob, my mother and sisters are like your wife in their skin.

MemberDoes any sun block not give the in the eyes burn if sweating.
Man it hurts an you are freaking blind. Take your water bottle and dump it in your eyes ASAP. The only fix I have found.
Then put more block on once dry. -
