Travis Jarrod and I hooked up on River X and what a blast. If there is one constant in Trophy hunting it is nasty weather = big fish. Hands down this is one thing I will say I’ve learned in the time I’ve spent fishing for big fish that I am 100% certain the fish won’t make me a liar next week for saying it. Well this weekend was a trophy hunters dream, warm nasty spring weather. We were after a weird slam of Musky, Smallmouth, and Browns, but for all our might we didn’t get a Smallie. Travis did get one Musky to the boat that pushed the boca to 25 pounds and stretched the tape to 44″ and several very nice Browns on and over the 20” mark.
The Musky was caught on conventional gear and a big musky plug and the Browns were all on the fly. The Musky was a catch I’ll never forget and I didn’t even catch it. The fish did the classic Musky take right at the boat and if you’ve never seen a 44″ 25 pound Musky pissed off and right at the boat it’s a sight. But the real excitement is watching someone catch that fish that has stirred his imagination for sooo long. I know, I’ve been there myself, knees trembling, mind racing, Drag screaming, Graphite stressing, and praying, Lord PLEASE just let me get this one to the boat! Travis it was a hoot man glad we were able to make a good trip after it kinda went astray. I’ll shoot you the rest of the pics later.
Jarrod’s famous last remark that day was “there aint no damned fish in this river”
about 30 seconds later Travis followed that up with: “guys guys,,,, OHH MY GOD I GOT ONE!
Me: I told you so, HOLY *&^%# get the net!!

For me the giant Musky on the fly is still a dream. I’ve got one on gear and the quest on the fly has been a hard and trying one. But I know it’s just a matter of time….
