Backpack. There seems to be more people dumping vest and chestpacks in favor of backpack. Think it would be interesting/scary to see what everyone drags along.

I never leave for the river without this in mine.

Rebel and spare lens in a waterproof roll top.
    Gloves
    a jacket
    lunch
1 or 2 beers or flask
    Dry fly box
    sunscreen
    bug spray
oh and a Eddie Bauer survival kit w/ 2 lighters and “magic fire ball” things…I’ll always carry that after what happened to my ol’ man on a guided hunting trip in the tundra a couple years back!

The chest part is full of tackle stuff.

    Ditch the vest

    If I’m traveling light:

    1DsIII + 580 flash
    100 gigs of cards.
    16-35 II
    50 1.2
    100 Macro
    Tripod.
    Water
    Rain coat
And a little bit of fishing gear.. 😉

And if I have the big pack and really feel like taking pictures I add a bigger tripod and a Polaroid 600se + all the river side processing gear.
(it’s a pain, but worth it if the light plays ball)

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.
