The fishing finally took off after three weeks of unseasonable cold. The fish are plentiful and active. Only wind can stand in the way.

I took Jack Littleton of New York on Sunday and we caught spotted seatrout, pompano, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and loads of ladyfish. All of the fish were caught on Clouser Deep Minnows. We were fishing off Stephens Point in Sarasota Bay and the east side of the bay.

Pompano action is going on now. It’s not difficult to catch them on fly.

On Monday, we had a hard southern wind and could only get in a half day. We caught a few spotted seatrout and ladyfish.

Tuesday, the wind switched around to the east-northeast, allowing us to fish the east side of the bay again. Action started out slow, but picked up greatly during the day. Robert  Cook of New York joined Jack and I for the third day.

We caught a load of ladyfish, spotted seatrout and pompano. Most of the trout were small, but we did manage a couple of nice fish in the afternoon. The afternoon also provided pompano. I must have hooked 10 or 12 and landed five or so. All of the fish were decent sized.

We used Superhair Clousers in olive and white.

Action was very steady on all three trips.

Nice report Steve.  I plan on getting out this weekend after laying off for a couple of weeks.  I’ve been having good luck with reds, specs and ladyfish, but have yet to find the pompano this year.

    When are you coming Keith?
