I know there’s a few of you that fish the Smokies so I thought I would share my most recent trip.  I finally made it up to the Smokies for the first time in awhile yesterday. After making the required stop at LRO and chatting with everyone, I headed up LR. My first couple of stops produced a few missed fish but that was it. Sometimes I feel like I don’t approach Little River correctly and today was one of those days. I decided to move over to Tremont and this was just what I needed to get me going. Finished the day with 15 fish, 8 on dries and 7 on nymphs. Not bad for February and Friday the 13th at that… Fish liked a #16 parachute Adams, #14 Tellico nymph variant, and #18 Brassie. Over the course of the day I saw a fair number of bugs on/around the water including little black stoneflies, early brown stoneflies, little black caddis, BWOs and midges. Even saw several fish rising to naturals. I can’t wait for the big spring hatches to begin in earnest!

One of the best things about today was the size of the fish…caught some absolute monsters, kinda like this guy…

And a slightly more normally sized fish…

    A favorite stretch of water…

Definitely a great day on the water even if the fish were on the small side…

I love the Smokies and those small wild trout.

Probably wasn’t me, I don’t think I started rigging up until a bit after 1 PM.

You’ll know my vehicle – it’s a solar flare yellow FJ cruiser without a roof rack.  I don’t know if you get to fish often on Fridays, but I have Fridays off and can sneak down there a bit easier.  Plus its often a bit less crowded.

Tremont is always my first choice.  My favorite spots are after the trailhead, but I love fishing that stream.

Heck, I don’t know the difference between warm water and cold water lies, so I’ve got a ton to learn.  I’d love to fish with ya, though.

Ah, I saw your vehicle by the road as I was heading over towards Tremont and saw you in the stream.
