The Itinerant AnglerDanny –
I am going to try to program my DVR to catch a re-run.

MemberI am so glad you brought this up Danny.
I have been using my DVR to record it for years now and caught some very special moments and live performances. This coming saturday the FOO Fighters have the whole hour and it’s new. I’ve had some great moments seeing live performances that to me prove a band or solo artits ability. So many can only pull off a performance in the studio and not live.
Some great performances I have on my DVR include My Mornimg Jacket tearing it up a year ago and recently getting the full hour this yaer and showing just how great a band they are. Also Theivery Corperation, old SRV, Trey Anastasio, The Flaming Lips, Cat Power, Widespread, Lyle Lovett with Guy clark, John Hait, and Joe Ely all sitting on stools with thier guitars and Not having a set list just improvising.

MemberZach,
I know you’re a big bluegrass fan – do you ever listen to railroad earth?
Jan 12, 2009 at 5:40 pm #32988dannyo
MemberWhen I was a kid my parents would watch the show, and I hated every last minute, probably because we only had one tv.
Jan 12, 2009 at 5:42 pm #32989dannyo
MemberAlso, as a side note, I believe the shows are free of charge to attend.

MemberDanny,
KOL, BRMC, are some of my favs as well. I will check out the others you mentioned. I am always looking for new music and like your style.
I had no idea the Lips put on such a crowd participatory event but now I want to see them live. That’s got to be a riot.
Do you like the new KOL. I think it’s awsome. Rock On Danny!

MemberI’ll have to give a big second to Lyle Lovett and also raise you Robert Earl Keen Jr.

MemberRobert Earl plays a good show; I’ve probably seen him at least a dozen times live.

MemberThose interested – many of the bigger names to do ACL are available on CD and DVD. Last time i was in Waterloo Records they had an entire section devoted to ACL. Bands? Aren’t there two SRV shows – on drugs and off?
Going to see The Gourds tonight here in Denton. There’s Ryan Bingham, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Drive By Truckers, My Morning Jacket, Son Volt (coming to Denton next month) and don’t forget the misunderestimated James McMurtry. I have written a bit about KOL, and they are the best big “unknowns” on the road. Big releases this year will probably overshadow – new U2, new Springsteen and I hope / pray for the long promised Neil Young box set.

MemberI think the KOL bug is picking up, as they have three Grammy nominations this year!

MemberWilco’s hour-long from a year or so was great, it’s been on my DVR for almost 2 years.
Another very cool new music show is Elvis Costello’s Spectacle on Sundance. He’s a great interviewer and there are some great musical collaborations throughout.
