I couldn’t stand it any longer . . . TOO long without fishing and damn cold. Went up to the mountains today with my buddy Tim. Got to scratch the itch. I must say the highlight of the day was helping Tim land a monster rainbow in very skinny water in combat conditions, under a log and into a hole. What a fabulous day! My batteries are recharged.
No cows, but the donkeys were standing. Does that count?

A motley crew.

This was my third time taking the DSLR on the river. Still makes me uneasy but the Simms waterproof bag has served me well and fits snugly on my back while wading.

Gorgeous, gin-clear freezing water.

Technical water and tight cover; the way I like it!

The players . . . simple subsurface patterns this time of year, especially eggs, nymphs and midges (not shown).

Tim’s big rainbow was the highlight of the day! All else was just second shelf compared to this landing. He fought a tough battle. I chased it all over until the landing.

Look closely to see the tiny blue midge in the corner of the mouth. I am always amazed that such small flies can not only entice the big fish but that we as anglers are able to land them with nothing more than a smidgen of wire!

This is a great “oops” (AKA, oh S*(^it) shot.

A little alone time as he says goodbye and thank you.

Some others
The (should be patented) “MORSIE” smile. After his recent New Zealand trip report, I now consider the Morsie smile shot to be as obligatory as the IA food shot, hahahaha. Imitation is a sincere form of flattery and I can only dream of getting those quality shots (and fish).

Saying goodbye as it started to snow.

Obligatory IA food shot.

MemberI recognize tim. I have spoken with him several times. I will have to congratulate him next time I am down that way. I thought recognized that wonderful water too.

MemberNeal,
Those are smiles of true happiness! Well done my friend. It looks cold though…chuck those razors and let the man-fur come out; it makes for a warmer day on the water!D.

MemberWhat fun, Neal. Great way to break the cold grip. But I have to object–the food shot simply does not meet the historical standards of this board, IMO.
