I am just getting started thinking through the Gore Tex vs. Event conversation.  Event appears to jumping ahead of Gore products in Europe with the mountaineering set.  Seems like the books are saying that Gore Tex is more durable while Event is more breathable.

    Wondering what people think?
How long until we are seeing Event waders?

    Thanks,

    The silence is deafening.

As a famous fencing contractor once said…

    “It’s lonely at the top!”

Like the recession it might take a bit longer to get to Australia.. 😉

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

Well…I guess I’ve got my answer – Event is not really shaking up the angling industry.  I will re-post this question in a couple years, once Gore-Tex has been dethroned and everyone will have something to say.

    Hey KB –

I am ostensibly a products guy for the magazines and I had to look up eVent (the proper spelling, apparently) myself.

Looks like REI is using it in some jackets and pants.  Looks like pricing is on par with other breathable fabrics.

    Could you use both together?

The Epic stuff that they use on their insulated jackets like the EP works really well too.

eVent is awesome for upper layers that need to breathe. “Pro shell” (Gore) is still my go-to but it seems eVent will give Gore a run for its money.

    Basic Low down…
Gore – uses a PU layer -> reduces breathability, gains in durability.
eVent – does not use a PU layer -> superior breathability (eVent calls it ‘Direct Venting’) lacks in durability.
