I’ve been kicking around the idea of trying to get an article published during the off season and was wondering if anyone one could offer up some advice in how to go about this?
I’m not sure how to answer your question. Perhaps you can be more specific.
I guess the simple answer to submit. Some print publications allow you to submit via email. Most allow multiple submissions.

First of all, I am moving this thread to the Writing section where others with similar questions are likely to look for it.
In terms of getting published, there is a sort of process.
Also important is to check out Writers Guidelines that most magazines have — most are very specific — and some request that you shouldn’t send query unless serious about writing article — so be very clear on what you intend to write — AND GOOD LUCK!!! — it’s a great way to beat the winter blahs!!!!
I would also suggest finding a more regional publication if not a local newspaper. I recently had my first official publication in a regional sporting journal. This bi-monthly tabloid publication is given away at local hunting and fishing shops as well as wal-mart/gander mtn. etc. You can also subscribe for a fee and I think he has about 10,000 subscribers.
My submission was a first person narrative, on the comedic side, and was welcomed with open arms. I think at a more regional level you can have an opportunity to cut your teeth and try out some things that most of the big boys won’t touch. I’m working on a few more ideas and plan on writing for this publication as often as possible.
