It looks like I can cut to the chase on this board, and save fruitless searching.

Does the term “multiple submissions” still apply if one is submitting an article to multiple magazines? Is that a typical phrase, and does it generate any negative or positive connotations?

What are “serial rights”? What is typical today when it comes to exclusivity and rights for other publications to use?

What fly related magazines are the best (not dollar-wise), and worst to work with as a writer and/or photographer?
If these answers already exist in a thread, don’t hesitate to send me there.
    Thanks, texasflycaster

Multiple submissions are fine so long as you let the editors know you have submitted to other publications.

Yeah, that up from the bottom thing sure does sting when I’m [s:1c95d5gy]47[/s:1c95d5gy] forty-something, have a photojournalism degree, have been a freelance photographer for 17 out of 21 years as a professional photographer (worked for daily rags during those other four), put my first photography web site online in 1994 (and it’s still going) and have this crazy site texasflycaster.com that is generating an unexpected audience. Yeah, unfortunately that fly bug stings too – stung me so bad it may be terminal. It looks like as good a bad time as any to start from the bottom – economically speaking. Great information for sure! Thanks, shannon

With that much experience, I’m sure it won’t take you long to get noticed if you put your work where editors can easily find it.

    NAFSRs.
    North American First Serial Rights.

Is what the majority of magazines (atleast the hook and bullit) want to purchase. Translated it means they want to purchase the rights to be the First Serial (periodical publication) to publish said article/photo in North America

If the image/article has previoulsy been run you’d better let them know. Most wont buy previoulsy published material but in some cases they do.
