Steve K.MemberI’ve always heard that one of those old wind up alarm clocks will keep him quiet. The ticking supposedly simulates Mom’s heartbeat.

Memberwe have/had a microwavable dog toy that stays warm for a few hours.
our pup liked to snuggle with it when he was a pup in his jail, the warmth was supposed to remind him of his litter mates.other than that, we ignored him when he would cry and yelp.

MemberEric,
I just got a pup myself, and I have been struggling to get her to stay quiet when he is crated. I got this thing called “Comfort Zone,” which plugs into an outlet and emits what is suppose to be the pheromone a mother emits to calm her pups. This, along with music, toys, a wind-up clock, and some doggie treats, has done quite well.

MemberEric,
I think you have a Lab puppy? I don’t claim to be an expert on Labs or puppy training, though I just lost my 11 year Old Choc Lab http://flyfishaddiction.com/Dog_Folder.html a few months ago and trained him early on. I also own a Pet Business.
I have about 50 puppy clients (300 total)and have seen it all! One of the biggest tips you can do during this initial Loving, yet behavioral role, is definitely the crate training which you are doing. There’s no secret early on since it’s a trial and error depending on each individial does when they cry/bark/whine to leave in or take out. As they start to get older I would leave them in there to acclimate them since most dogs hate it. As time goes on they will adapt also and stop once a few bathroom incidents also arise.
As far as alarm clocks, I’ve also heard of that, the pheremone works on some dogs but not all, it is also used for dogs marking territory’s inside around the house. As he get’s older and you can see if he has a senstive stomach to various treats/foods, I use the Popsicle method, I grab a kong, put various kibbles or peanut butter in and freeze it each day. They lick on it for hours and most of my puppy clients love it!
There are many tips out there to try, some work some don’t…it’s just trial and error which with puppies is about everything 🙂
Here is a Fav forum of mine you can try or PM me if you need help alond the way, I have a ton of useful info.

MemberHey Tradd,
I might be knocking on your door as well. As I mentioned earlier, my pup is 9 weeks old, and she has an attitude! She yelps, whines, etc. Plus, she thinks our ankles are her personal chew toys. I got the pheromone difuser, and it works for us, along with a litany of other tactics which combine to form a method of manipulating our dog into exhibiting desired behavior. But I am a noob at this dog stuff, so please, spread any knowledge you have!

MemberEric,
Be careful that the popsicle sticks don’t splinter and end up caught in his throat.

Eric WellerMemberAh Steve I think Tradd ment the kong being frozen like a popsicle, not the actual popsicle.
