MemberGot to finally try and fish my new carp line out. The line is great, turns over the fly well and makes nice delicate presentations, roll casts with ease. Great in skinny water too. Here are some pics of some carp that I caught using the line.

MemberTim,
The line is actually pretty good. I was doubtful about it when the rep was telling me about, I figured I give it a shot and was surprised. I really like it for skinny water. By no means is it going to replace the line I use up on Lake Michigan, but a good line still. I have caught about 15 carp on it so far in the couple of days that I have had it so I can’t complain to much.

MemberI am saying there isnt much of a market for a specific carp taper.

The Itinerant AnglerI disagree, Tim.

MemberI still think it’s bogus. If anything, it’s a marketing gimmick. Ok so there are like 10 fly fisherman in Kansas, total. So maybe 2 of them will buy it. I’ll bump my number up to 10 lines sold all year.
Where do you draw the line for species specific tapers? How can a consumer benefit any more from a Carp line than a Rio Grand or an SA GPX?

Kent EdmondsMemberDon’t know whether a carp line will sell or not, but the “alternative species” are pretty popular these days. On my website, excluding of the entry page, my gar page is the most popular on the site. Below are the respective visits per page for 2008 ytd. Carp are almost as much fun as gar, so Rio may have a winner……..Now you need `em to make you a gar line, Zach.;)

MemberWho knows it could work. Believe it or not Carp are finally taking off here on Colorado as a prefered species! We just finished out 2nd annual Carp Slam I helped with this year in Downtown Denver…Yes I am a Golden Lover, got out 25 days last year and pretty close to that again this year~

MemberI revcently read an article, sorry I cannot remember the mag, and it was all about Carp and how they asre on the rise as a game fish and why they have gotten a bad rap as a trash fish.

MemberIts taper is designed such that it’s specific to carp scenarios. Like all species specific lines, it’s designed around the type of flies you’d typically throw and the distance at which you will normally be fishing. Usually the core is appropriately chosen for the specific water it’ll be fished in – I imagine this one is made for warm water. For example – saltwater lines have a stiffer core to minimize tangling, since most are fished in warm water.
I am not knocking on this line, carp fishing (which totally rocks!), Rio, or the state of Kansas and it’s fly fishing population. Just that I dont see people giving up their current floating lines for this line.
