Does anyone have any experience with this rod? I am seriously considering it, but that I would see if you all could share the pros and cons.
    Thanks,
    D.

I have one and I like it a lot. The taper on the line is very aggressive so when tossing really heavy flies, like clousers, it can smack them down pretty hard unless you pay attention to what you are doing. I love it for the the small creeks I fish because it really accurate for short casts and it excels at side arm casts.

    Thanks Grant,
You know which river I am thinking of using it on, so your input is helpful. I am also interested in the rod for a good carp rod, but I did not know if it loaded well w/ little line out. Some casts are only 15 or so feet, but it sounds like this rod would be well suited for that as well.

I think it would work well for where you want to fish it. The one issue with the rod being used for carp

Take a look at the new Bluegill Rod from Sage as well.

    Thanks guys,
I looked for the Bluegill. I saw some references to it, but no pics or detailed reviews. I guess it still has not hit the websites yet in full force.

I like mine its great for casts in tight spots the taper throws big bugs really well. It can be alot of rod sometimes, but it excels at what it was designed for.

Guys the Sage Bluegill is a great rod. We gave a prototype a thorough thrashing on a bunch of carp on the flats here in Oz. For smallmouth etc (and probably even Largemouth,) I think its a great option.

Redington also came out with a bunch of shorter budget Bass rods at this year’s show and married with the new Rio Short Outbounds you have a great set-up for bass fishing.

I still have not been able to find anyone who is selling the Bluegill Sage. Any suggestions?

feather craft has the bluegill – at least at the online catalog.

I see the smallmouth bass rod as an 8 weight rod – just perfect rod for midsize up to 10lbs peacock bass. But it is overkill for smaller fish like our LM Bass ~ around 3 lbs max.

the bluegill rod is already on my shop list

We got our Bluegill rods in the shop a couple of weeks ago, so your local shop can get them right now.

All of the Sage Bass rods take a little getting used to.  The lines that come with them cast like shooting heads.  Keep your back casts lower and your forward casts should end higher.  The head of the line is bulky even on the Bluegill, so if you get too far past the head when false casting there will not be enough weight to keep your rod loaded and your loops will fall apart.  It works best when you false cast 5-10′ past the head(30-40′), get a nice tight loop and then let er rip.  The line is only 80 feet long and can be shot with a 40′ false cast.  Less is more when casting these rods in my experience.

In your experience, Kevin, what is the minimal distance this rod will load? Again referring to carp fishing, many times I am casting inside of 15 ft. What are your thoughts on the Bluegill as a carp rod?
