    While on American Samoa, every fish caught was eaten.

    Lee, I think you’ll find that Lake Taupo has had a pretty famous Steelie fishery for over 100 years, since they were first introduced with California stock in the late 1800’s.

    Lee , there is a fair bit of discussion about the fish that inhabit Lake Taupo as to weather they are Rainbows or Steelhead.
    I believe that the original fish that were put in Taupo in the late 1800’s were a strain of Steelies, but down here in Oz and in NZ they are reffered to as Rainbows.

    Bill is spot on with his references to Zane Grey and the Duchess Pool and the winter spawn run fishery is legendary.

    This fresh run silver bullet  hen is a good example of a Tongiraro fish

    You guys are far more familiar with Steelies than me but there is a difference between it and  the fish below which is the more normally encountered NZ South Island resident Rainbow hen.
