MemberI am truly lucky to live so close to SW Montana … I made another weekend run up with a buddy to fish for a couple of days. Couldn’t have picked a better weekend. The weather was sunny and a bit on the cool side .. The fishing was not fast, but it wasn’t slow either.
Any critiques on the photos are welcome! All of my photos from this trip are HERE on my flickr acct if you want to see a few more. Sorry no food shot .. I forgot!
Day 1
We met at the shop ( Uncle Bob’s Outdoors in Dillon ) to float the Big Hole.
You gotta love the shop and guide pets that are around!

Day 2 was reserved for some wade fishing.
Stopped in at Four Rivers in Twin Bridges to get the low down.

We fished a few different places throughout the day… It turned out to be a stunning day and once we found the right hopper pattern it was ‘game on’!

Day 3 – We couldn’t leave without a stop to fish below Clark Canyon on the way out of town. We didn’t see another person the 4 hours we fished. We hit a huge hatch .. The kind of hatch that is overwhelming and hard hard hard to match … Huge fish rising everywhere and looking at your fly maybe one out of every 100 casts. We did manage to hookup a couple of times before the hatch was over and my buddy got a fish to hand and I missed my couple of opportunities because of over-excitement and knot issues! Waaaaay fun!

Before we left, I climbed up on the ledge to take some photos and … spotted a very nice ‘bow slashing around and feeding. My buddy has an accurate cast and dropped it right where he was supposed to!

Cameron MortensonMemberCorey…you have a job and family right?
Sep 18, 2008 at 3:51 pm #29416Corey Kruitbosch
MemberThanks for all the feedback and comments!!!
Cameron: LOL, I do have a job and a family… Thankfully, I have a very patient wife who is willing to let me go a little overboard with my hobbies .. For various reasons, this last year presented me with a lot of opportunity to fish. I wont be fishing as much this next year. Now if I can get my wife fishing with me, or at least floating, next year… I’ll be set! As far as the job goes… As luck had it this year. We happened to be winding down on our latest project just when fishing was getting good!

MemberHow much PP on those shots?
I usually do a bit of PP on everything .. How much really depends on the shot.. Were you wondering about any of them specifically? The only real alteration of these photos was .. I took a flag and pole out of #1 … and removed a wire/fence from #5

Member#’s 1, 2, and 10 specifically
I’ll look at the layers in my PSDs tonight to see exactly what I did to them, but .. right now i can say that
#1 – Fairly true to the RAW … Standard adjustments of the horizon, crop, color balance, levels, contrast, and sharpen (if needed). I Pulled out the flag pole and desaturated it a bit.
#2 – Tone mapped and reduced the effect by layering it in PS. Prob the most PPing of the bunch, because of that.
#10 -Also fairly true to the RAW .. I did my standard adjusted the horizon, crop, color balance, levels, contrast, and sharpen (if needed). I didn’t mess with this one much.

Cameron MortensonMemberCorey…did you know about this?
Sep 19, 2008 at 1:32 am #29422Corey Kruitbosch
MemberCameron .. I saw that! Thanks for the huge compliment. I know I have sooooo much more to learn, especially from all of the ultra talented people on this board! Believe it or not, it was Zachs first podcast that really got me thinking about mixing-up photography and fly fishing.
