MemberBeen fishing and on the road a lot in the last thirty days. Bass fishing has started to really peak my interests as of late. Spending days trying to copy what conventional guys are doing on the water with a fly rig to land the big Buckets. In-between trying to figure out how to fish drop-shot & Flip brush with a fly rod, spent some time to do a little trout fishing too. All the Bass lakes are here local to Arizona, however the trout fishing was done at Lee’s Ferry, Gila River Wilderness New Mexico, & around Panguitch Utah.
Panguitch sits between Zion and Bryce Nation Parks. The area is loaded with water and boasts over 40 different local streams. Got a chance to look at Virgin River inside Zion, some really good looking water and the River extends for quite a distance outside the park as well. On a trail following the Virgin river my son and I stopped to watch a Brown eat caddis depositing eggs in a riffle for close to thirty-minutes. From our vantage point , Hudson, got a good look at a very healthy trout with her food-bag on.
In both areas, Zion & streams around Panguitch, we fished Rainy’s Ants with a midge dropper sixteen inches below the dry. On the way home from Zion we made a stop at the Ferry, taking in some of its alien-like topology as well as an hour or two of fishing the Walk In. Fishing the standard Ferry-Tailwater setup, ten foot leaders & small bugs under indicators produced a half dozen fish while we were there.
Got asked to take some shots of Gilas, so spent a weekend in New Mexico in around the Wilderness area starting at Silver City. Caught a bunch of the little buttery Gilas that inhabit these waters on all types of bugs. Beautiful area with miles of water and very little pressure.
The bass were all caught flipping a bug that I’ve been working on for a year now. Think Barr’s Meat Whistle meats Crawfish pattern on 2 Ought hook.
Was supposed to do a San Diego trip inside that window too, however, it got postponed. Probably a good thing considering my wife is due in nine days.
Arizona Bass caught throwing a hair jig designed by my friend Ben at a bait busting wolf pack.

Another Arizona bass, flipped up from timber.

Crazy rock formations that stand sentry at the entry way to the Walk In section of Lee’s Ferry.

Red rock bluffs carved by wind and water, walling in one side of Marble Canyon.

Ferry Rainbow that ate a size 26 miracle midge.

Virgin River inside Zion National Park

One of the largest White Sandstone Bluffs in the world inside Zion.

One of the Rarest trout on the Planet, a Gila.

Sorry no food shots – next time. Been a busy, busy month.

MemberThanks guys, kind of had to cheat on this last one. I’m committed to a few different people on most of the photos already, so I really only could post the ‘B’ stuff.

MemberCouple more shots;
Gila in the water.

Humming bird that liked the planter next to our table at lunch in the Gila Wilderness

A couple deer and their fawns we suprised laying next to a stream.

I know this photo isn’t the best representation of the Gila, but I couldn’t help but love its experssion. Like she’s screaming, “HELLLLPPPPP, put me back!”

Another Arizona Bass flipped out of the sticks.

Tight shot hair jig Bass getting ready to be released.
