Odd Sighting While Guiding.

I was guiding today for smallmouth here in central Indiana. Day was going great except for my client breaking my Z-axis at the very start of the day. I’m coming around this log jam and I see this barred reptilian tail out of the corner of my eye. As soon as I saw it I knew what it was, it was a gator. There was a 3 ft. gator just sunning on this log jam in the middle of Indiana. I know that it was someone’s pet that just dumped, but honestly a gator in Indiana. Just wondering if anyone has any odd experiences like mine today.

Could also have been a caiman – I think they are sold as pets sometimes.

I doubt if you need a permit to hunt gators in Indiana.

I’m going to send the DNR an email tonight and call the CO in the morning. I doubt the animal will make it to November, but still want to get him out of there.

I have not guided for carp yet. I will ask clients if they want to fish for them when on smallmouth trips though. Many people still over look the carp as a worthy fish on the fly.

Just a tongue-in-cheek comment that you’re pretty generous with expensive gear. The guide outfits I’m familiar with let clients use FLis or something similar.

The clients that I took out wanted to use the gear that I use. A broken rod is just the price of guiding, and thank goodness for warranties.
