MemberZach … I originally planned this trip after listening to your Conway Bowman podcast…
The trip was two years in the making. I scheduled the trip for the following ‘prime time’ July, but Capt Dave Trimble pulled his back and couldn’t do the trip. Beach fishing in San Diego is cool, but its not makos! lol. I went back out in September and got blanked… So, finally everything came together
Here are some of the pics from my trip!

MemberThanks Aaron! Yeah, it was a seriously cool trip! It was my first real salt water experience and it’ll be hard to follow-up .. The makos are unbelievably beautiful and powerful creatures. The takes were slow, intentional, and purposeful. The runs were over the top fast and strong. On top of all that, you can tell that Conway loves being there and he was absolutely fantastic!
edit: If your interested, there are a few more pics on my flickr stream .. I didnt want to flood.

MemberGlad to hear that worked out Corey. I’ve a couple of friends who are doing that with either Conway or Dave Trimble in a few weeks. Hope it works out for them. Ever since I heard the podcast Zach did, I have been wanting to try that. Hopefully, one day I will be able to. Looks like a blast.
I am checking out your flickr stream…that Blue is incredible. I was going to ask if got into those as well. Blues are easily my favorite shark. Great pics. 🙂

MemberDarrin: Thanks .. Your friends will have a ball! Hands down one of ( if not the ) best FF experiences I have had. Thanks for the compliment on the pic of the blue.. It was a little unnerving to put my hand underwater with agitated sharks, but you only live once, right? There were blues around and they wanted to take the fly, but Conway wanted us on the makos!
Zack: Thanks! Those sexy sharks make it fun!

Cool. Funny you mention the UW shot. One of the guys going is known on another board for his UW shots of trout and macro shots of the fishes eyes. I told him he should leave the UW shots to someone else. I am picturing a shot of a Mako’s eye from like ten feet away. ;D
I am sure the Makos are more exciting to catch and all. It’s just that Blues are about the most graceful looking fish I’ve ever seen. And the deep blue color is incredible. I’ll have to link this for my friends to check out. I am sure it will get some juices flowing for their trip.

LOL .. Man if he has a better underwater setup than i do (optio W20). He should take it along. That optio has such a lag that it was hard to get a good shot. An UW shot of a mako eyeballing or taking a fly, would be fantastic! The teaser in my shot is pretty cool, but a take on a fly would be waaay more cool. imo 😎

I agree! Blues are stunning! Looking forward to hearing how your buddies do and seeing some pics! Be sure to post an update after they go.
