Did anyone else get a call from a telemarketer on behalf of Fly Fisherman magazine? I was rudely interupted from my dinner last night from such and my first thought was about how crummy a marketing ploy it was for Fly Fisherman’s publisher to go to this measure to keep subscribers, then when he started to push me to subscribe at the “lower” priced subscription else my rates go up I told him I’d consider it. He then abruptly shouted “pay the higher rate then” and hung up on me. First class grade A unprofessional anal wipeage right there. I’ll never subscribe to Fly Fisherman again after that.
Don’t want to hijack the thread but would like to get some input now that we are talking about magazine subscriptions………
For the past two months, I’ve been receiving both Field & Stream and Backpacker magazines. I had subscribed to both a few years back but did not renew my script. All of a sudden they start showing up again. I figure one of two things have happened:
1. Someone got them for me as a gift (unlikely) or…
2. I’m getting scammed and will receive a bill any day now saying my account is extremely overdue and they will kidnap my firstborn if they do not receive immediate payment.
Anyone else have this happen?
I’ve had that happen before and it was explained to me (not by the magazines) that the rates they charge for advertisements are based on the number of subscribers so sometimes they can make more money by giving away a few subscriptions for free.
I’ve been getting Fly Fisherman the last few months “Compliments of The Fly Shop”, the mail order/travel company out of california.
