This is a quick poll to see which logo you think would work better embroidered on hats and shirts.
I would like to say that if you are in Joel’s part of Montana, or planning a trip to Montana, contact Joel. If he is as fun to fish with as he has been fun to work with on what can be a tedious project, You’ll have a great time
I have been doing design for great big companies for a long time and have forgot how much fun it can be to work on a design for a person that their business is really just an extension of themselves. Most of the design that I work on has the personalty taken away. From the Fish, to the mountains and colors – his logo is actually a little story of Joel – A Troutaholic.

The Itinerant AnglerThat is an extremely sweet logo.
For hats and whatnot, the top logo is definitely superior.

Joel ThompsonMemberIf I wasn’t so pumped to have this logo I would be sad that the process is over! Kevin is a logo master! The guy has so many great ideas it can be hard to choose just one because you like them all. At one point I told him it was like being a kid in a candy store or a grown man in the beer isle at the super market! 😀
It was a great process and I can’t wait to put this logo on some hats and shirts!

Mark SchaferMemberI had similar decisions to make and now use two versions for many of the above reasons also you will find having the lettering on its own will have many uses.

MemberI didnt make I easy on Joel. He had 100’s to choose from -trying to feel out what he was looking for. I was real happy with this due to how many different ways it can be used – every element can be used on its own – I have worked with so many logos that are “set” and can only be used for one purpose – nightmare. There are about 25 more variations to the logos shown but they all work well together. We can use them on anything.
The concept part was hard because we really did not know each other and personality is a major part of a personal business. With lots of questions and a little research on where he lives – the Idea came fast. For example, the mountains are his home range and for personal reasons, I put Mount Powell in the middle – It is a silhouette of a Cut but that is graphically a hard one to tell, and the colors are personal to Joel’s history. Type faces can be difficult because it is like picking a wine or beer to go with a meal. Drink a stout with fish and you’ll know what I mean. OR heavy chocolate after eating fish… same sort of idea.
Thanks for all the great feedback.

Joel ThompsonMemberKevin,

DustyDusty, I do plan on having hats, shirts, tee shirts, and Jackets for sale with the logo. I don’t know how soon but I will keep you posted. I also don’t want to make the IA my market place out of respect for Zach and all that he has done here. Perhaps I will put a notice in the garage sell section when they become available and people can contact me about it directly then.

MemberDoes Simms know you borrowed their fish?
Apr 15, 2008 at 10:37 pm #25132kevin powell
MemberHate to say it but a silhouette of fish is really hard to own – it falls into the public domain laws – i researched it to make sure. At least Joel’s is anatomically correct.

MemberI was asking a simple question regarding copyright violation.
Apr 16, 2008 at 1:15 am #25134Zach Matthews
The Itinerant AnglerIt’s close, but I don’t think Kevin’s design is going to infringe.
