    Hey everyone,
Just wondering where my fellow steelheaders are at?  I’ve been patiently waiting for some chrome reports but I’ll gladly take the opportunity to start things off.
I’m a student at the Medical School in Duluth and every year for past 4-5yrs these crazy fish have essentially dictated all aspects of my life from women to grades….I know I’m not the other soul in that boat!  The early season in Wisc. started about a week and a half ago and the Brule has been fishing pretty well since then….lots of holdovers, and only a few fresh fish which means its only gonna get better! 🙂   I’d really love to hear about other’s trial and tribs as this young season progresses.

On another note….Though this is my first post on the Itinerant site, I’ve been a regular observer for a longtime….reading, learning, and becoming a fan of many of your insights!  Hey Zach, I appreciate all you’ve done here….keep up the great work!

Here is the album I’ve working on this season, check it out.

    Hey Tim,
Nice picture!  Sounds like you’ve made the rounds a bit huh?  MN mostly North Central got dumped on but due to reasons beyond me, probably had something to do w/ the lake, Wisc. remained untouched!  The Brule is sitting at average to slightly above average flows and the gradual melting of snowpack has really helped flows remain reasonable.

It’d be nice to hear from those folks from OH

There is a picture of the 18” at the ol’ man’s place, this past Sunday in Grand Rapids Mn.

The drive from the Cities to the Northwoods is a small price to pay for a steel fix.

By the way, I hope you werent one of the chuck n’ duck, mouth breathers who low holed me last Friday.

    Attempt 2 at the picture!

Yeah, it gets a bit crazy over there on the weekends.  I study hard on fri-sun and fish even harder Mon-Thurs!  I’m always looking for a good fishing partner…just let me know.

Ive been doing nothing nothing but photographing Steelheading for the last month of weekends.
I could add a bunch of photos, a select few Ive posted ( flash effect on Scales) but I mightget greif for all the center pin images. 😉

Fly fishing, while growing up here doesnt hold a candle to its popularity in the states. Ive only seen two fly rods in that month vs hundreds of center pins.

    /edit
If you dont mind center pinners and want to see some steelheading images to whet your appetite for openers heres a link to some.

Tim, Im North Shore Lake Ontario just east of Toronto.

We have a number of good rivers for migratories starting with the Credit to the west all the way to Wilmot and the Ganaraska in the east. All of them also hold resident Bowns and Brookies.
But “Fly-fishing” is lacking especially when compared to pinners and spinners. Lucky for me I live on one of them.

You should see the odd looks I get when I mention fly fishing for bass and musky. Youd think Im from a different planet. Most people up here assosciate fly with trout in small streams and thats it.

Our one “Blue Ribbon” river is the Grand River about 45 min from Toronto. Its fantastic and also happens to be a great rehabilitation story. Theres no natural reproduction but its spec regs only and the numbers per mile are high. Last year my friend caught the biggest Brown Ive yet to see it yield at 29inches. So the sport is growing but it pales compared to elsewhere, and during Steelhead, Fall runs pinners dominate although I know a couple spey guys that dont mind clearing a little room 🙂

    Thanks Lee.
Fun it is no matter what. There are few places in Canada I havent wet a line and fewer still in Ontario.
While its been years since Ive spent any length of time up ther I have fished the Sault, the Nipigon, and around T Bay. Those were Brookie trips with my dad when I was a youngster though. In my teeen and lately with my daughter  Ive been to the East a bit fishing Eliot Lake, Gowganda, Kirkland Lake regions. Have also gone camping at Lake Superior Prov park and have visited the sleeping giant.
I keep trying to convinve my wife to head up that way for a week or two with the kids because it has been 20+yrs since I last saw T Bay area. Unless it has all the amentities and no bugs though, its a no go 🙂 Oddly enough one place in Ont I havent wet a line is Lake of Woods or Quetico Prov Park to the west of Superior.

Lake Huron along the East shore gets some good runs to on the Saugeen and  Maitland as well

This thread makes me want to head out and go after some steelie. I don’t get to post as much since, I’m down at Purdue during the peak runs, but I’m planning on doing some damage soon here in Indiana. It’s really nice having steelhead in the systems almost year round. I just feel bad
