Well…the in-laws are taking everyone in the family on a cruise and one of the stops will be Key West, Florida.

Also you might give a call to Sandy Moret at Florida Keys Outfitters.

Cameron – you really want to make sure you do your homework when booking a guide down there this late.

The only thing worse then fishing with a wanna be fisherman is paying him $500 at the end of the day. I’m doing a DIY trip to Big Pine key with my boat in June. Everybody that was recommended was already booked. If I’m going to get zeroed I’d rather it be for free.

Mike, for every fish you catch it will be like $200 free money, ha.

Ooh I’ve done it too and I know what I’m up against. But my point was I won’t hire just anybody and everybody that has been recommended is already booked. So I’ll take my own rig and spend the week trying to figure it out. If I do it’ll be alot more rewarding since I did it alone. If I don’t I’ll still have a great time. I’m not hard to please when I’m in paradise. The folks I’m staying with are pro divers and fly fishers. They claim they can tell me where to fish, we’ll see. Do you know anyone in the area?

Mike, I agree with you totally.  Hope I didn’t sound flippant.  I was more or less making an observation, similar to yours, that a lot of people get to the salt for the first few times and may have a false belief that “any” guide with a boat will do.  There is so much more involved.  I pay good money for guides and reserve recurring annual dates to fish because if you get a good one they will certainly put you on fish (not catching them is my fault).  However, if I had my own boat and experience like you I think that a dyi trip would be a great way to go – that’s what I meant by every fish is money saved, or at least money earned.

I do have the ability the help you out with some spots in the area you are going.  PM me your dates and location and I can ask some questions.

Sorry Cameron, didn’t mean to hijack your post.
