This is not quite a “Tying” question, it is more or less a fishing question.
What is the best “Ant” pattern?
I don’t get to fish ants often, but the best pattern I ever fished was a deer hair parachute ant I bought from Troutflies.com.
I tie up a foam version that the Yellowstone cutts seem to love. I cut the foam to approximate length, then burn the ends with a candle….this will give the ends a rounded shape. Wrap a dry fly hook with a little black thread, attach the body via the thread, palmer a small piece of grizzly hackle. Done. Simple and effective.
