A friend and I got out for some lake Hybrid/Wiper action and weren’t disappointed. I’ve had a lot better day’s numbers and size wise but it sure was good to get an early taste of what’s to come. Real soon it’ll be Striper Time in Tennessee again!

    Awesome Mike.

Zach from now till Oct Striper and Hybrid are on my hit list big time. White Bass are a way to pass time when the Striper and Hybrids take a break during high sun or low water periods.

Great post Mike! I got my first chance at Wipers this past year and I can understand your addiction! I caught one six pounder and it felt like a freight train hit my line! Fun stuff for sure!

    Joel,

You need to spend a little of that vacation time down there with Mike. He has already said he’d take you, that was months ago. We can trade him out trips, you can stay at my house there in TN and Mike can stay with me here, or maybe your cabin.

Today at 11:00 am weather was warm sunny no wind and beautiful. At 3:30 when I got on the water there were clouds, 20+ mph north winds, and a cold front approaching. It was impossible to fly cast so we messed around looking at potential future spots. Running across 2’ swells in a 20 mph gust sure makes for a wet ride. Every spring I get baptized in a Percy Priest spray off my boat. It wouldn’t be spring without it.

About an hour before dark the wind settled some and we were in some fish. It wasn’t as many as yesterday but I was glad to see they were up feeding despite the cold front. I think this means they’ve made up their minds its time, and it’s about to really be on.

Joel it is addictive. Standing on the deck of a flats boat casting to hard fighting fish pretty much does it for me. When I’m doing that, there isn’t anything wrong in the universe that the next fish wouldn’t fix.

Like Ron said come on down anytime. BTW these are just the little guys. We grow em to over 20 pounds and you better have a strong wrist and a spare rod when we find some.

That is a very kind offer Mike! I doubt I will be able to swing it this year but you can damn well bet it will be on my agenda for next year! When is the best time to come down?

BTW you need to come out west and visit Ron and I too! We don’t have any 20lb fish in these parts but we could sure help you get your trout fix!

I’m going to be in the Smokies in April, any where close to Pidgeon Forge to get onto the stripers?

Joel it looks like I’m going to the Keys this year but I do plan to head out west one of these days.

John there are some great Striper and Hybrid fisheries in East TN but you’ll need a guide. I could talk to some of the East TN guys on my board and see if they could do it if you’d like.
