Guys I am looking to get my raft a little more organzied for this up coming season. One of the things I would really like is a box that could be half dry box half cooler with a rowers seat on top that mounts right to my NRS frame. Does something like this exist? I found this box on the web but they want a lot of money for it and it is just a dry box.

Do any of you have some good suggestions for getting a raft a little more clutter free?

    Joel,

When you say “half dry box, half cooler” what do you mean exactly? Couldn’t you simply find a cooler to fit snugly inside the dry box?

I work for the Outdoor Pursuit Center on campus and I think what we have may be what you’re talking about. If you provide a little more info I’ll check ours out and get back to you.

Jim I could put a soft sided cooler inside the dry box and that work fine. If I was the one creating this thing though I would have a seat in the middle and a door hatch on the cooler side so that it could be accessed easily while one was rowing down the river.

I appreciate you checking that out for me Jim. Let me know what you find out!

By the way what are you going to school for?

I’ll be in there this morning and will snap some pictures of our setup, Joel.

I’m a marketing major at Miami University, OH. Hoping to apply that degree to the fly fishing industry. Looks like I’ll be headed out to Jackson to intern with WorldCast Anglers this summer, so I should have a good idea of whether or not I’m headed down the right path.

    Thanks Jim!

Sounds like a sweet internship Jim! I hope you have lots of money cuz Jackson is one expensive place! Great fishing in the area though so you should have a great summer!

    Joel,

Took a look at our raft this afternoon, and it’s not the setup I thought it was afterall. It’s an NRS frame (not sure about the model) and the captains seat does not mount on the dry box. I’m taking the raft out for some float trips in 2 weeks, I’ll take plenty of pictures of the full assembly.

Check out Outcast on the web, under Sportsman Accessories, they have a Raised Seat Bar the installs on the frame and is designed to go over a cooler.

    sit on a cooler?

    sit on a cooler?

Patrick when I was your age I did just that. Now that I am a little older that rowers seat with a small back on it feels pretty good after ten hours on the river.

George I looked at the seat you mentioned. Nice seat and I see what you are saying about putting a cooler underneath it but I am really looking for more of the all in one type deal.

Jim I look forward to the pictures. Both of the raft set up and the fish you catch!

Hey Joel, I’ve got no idea how your raft is laid out but I know that your after something clean looking since your using this thing for business so much.

Thanks for the link Carter! That has actually given me an idea that might just work out very well for me. I am thinking about getting a sheet of Marine grade plywood and placing it where the seat is now. Somehow rig it up so that I can put my rowers seat on top and make it so I can adjust it and then make two cut outs that these little cooler / dry boxes can slide down into on both sides of me. Then fasten a little foam to the top of the boxes so I can stick used bugs in them and I think I am in business!

I will be working on this in the next month and when I get done I will post pictures.

    I see what you’re saying.

I heard that W.C. bought Hyde’s operation.  You should look into working in Idaho…….the fishing is better and the cost of living is a lot cheaper (even in I.P.).  Plus, the new head guide, Mike, is a great guy and would be excellent to work/learn from.

I’ll actually be spending most of my time in the Victor office. I am trying to find a place to live near Victor that won’t dry up all of my funds.

I assume you’re referring to Mike Dawkins? He was my foot-in-the-door as he is a Miami Alumn and was close with my current boss. Small world.

Shoot me a PM, Lando, if you get a chance.
