MemberTim,
I’ve fished the Frying Pan, but the Platte was my home river when I lived in CO. Mysis shrimp are the ticket on the Frying Pan. But I’ve never fished there that time of year. The shrimp come out of the reservoir, so fish as close to the dam as possible.
As far as the Platte, Spinney Ranch and Eleven Mile Canyon are both great tailwaters. ( sorry my CO brothers-the wors is already out!) Your right with the midges & bwo. Get ready to go small! #20-22 was pretty standard for that time of year, but some guys go even smaller. The standard patterns in those sizes are fine. Brassies, peasent tail’s, etc. We used to catch a ton of fish on what we called a MT MIDGE. (brass bead head, red micro tubing, tan dubbed collar)
By the way. If you want to fish those areas you may want plan your trip around Hoosier Pass being open that time of year. Its a pretty long drive from the Frying Pan to the South Platte if the pass is closed. I’d call the hwy dept. I think they don’t open the pass until well in spring because of avalanche danger.
Enjoy your trip!

Membersomeone told me they had done really well using ‘Charlies Mysis’ a few weeks ago. He had pics to prove it. I’d tie a few of those up for the trip. The upper CO has been fishing well the past few weeks too.

InactiveTry the Mysis shrimp in the channel just below the dam where the water shoots out.

Inactiveyes, #18 – 20 mysis, dead-drifted up in the “toilet bowl” or down in the flats below the chute from the dam. also, this time of year, the roaring fork just below the fryingpan confluence can be a good place to explore. the flows should be down to allow for easy wading, and with the lower water, the pools will be evident…
good luck, please post a a pic or two. i love that area and plan to be there at least twice in the next 6 months… be sure to grab a margarita and some green chili at the woody creek tavern!
