    I received a vintage reel for Christmas and I’ve been having some trouble finding information about it.

    I forgot to mention, on the back of the reel it says, “Holden No. 2 Genuine Bakelite.”

    Bakelite was the first “plastic” – you can learn a lot about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bakelite

    It was not at all uncommon to find Bakelite reels between the First and Second World Wars and even up to the 1950s.
