9 1/2 foot rods

It seems like longer rods are becoming all the rage and the Sage Z Axis seems to be designed very well for these longer lengths. Anybody have any experience with the 9 1/2 foot 4 or 5 weight Z Axis? Looking for a big river dry fly rod that requires lots of mending and long drifts.
I agree with Dave. The Z-Axis does feel like it is a weight bigger than what is stated on the rod. I do however feel that the longer rod gives you a little more of the “feel” that Dave is looking for. I just picked up a 10ft 8wt in the Z for steelhead fishing and I really like it. Now it does not quite have the feel that my 9’6″ BIIx 6wt has, but the thing is a rocket launcher!
I would try a lot of rods in the 9’6″ before you take the plunge. You will be very surpirsed on how different they all feel.
Oh by the way the longer rods are mending machines! 😉

I agree that casting a high priced rod before you buy it is a must. I also like the way a longer rod mends. I know one person who bought the Sage Z in a 7 put a 8wt line on it and says it’s the best Steelhead rod he has ever fished. My only real world problem with longer (more than say 9 feet) rods is that I find it harder to
