MemberThanks for the information… I am looking for a good pair of polarized glasses too… but I think I got a very limited choice, due to the prescription eyes… I was wondering are these lens made by glass?

Costa Del Mar glasses. I’ve owned costa for years and I love their product. I bought a new pair of Costa glasses because my old ones are big and hot in the summer and I wanted a smaller less sweaty pair. After about three months the lenses on my new Costas are delaminating around the edges. I have two other pair that are much older and heavier and no doubt are made from real optical glass and not the “lightweight Glass like material” used in today’s lenses. They swear they are glass and I swear they aint!
I called (not toll free) and told them my problem with the new glasses. They said we’ll send a stamp so you can just send them back and we’ll make it right. Well I get the replacements in a week only to find out that where they took out the lenses to replace them they tore the finish off the frame all around the lens. They look really bad. I’m left wondering how something like this got past QC?I thought for sure I’d get some some satisfaction from talking again to customer service, wrong…
Well the saga continues… I called to tell them about my issue and before I could get it out the lady said “are the frames are flaking?”. My guess is either she did the half ass repair herself or this isn’t the first time this has happened. I still don’t understand how or why any shop with a brand to protect would let something like this out the door. Anyway guess what, I get to send them back AGAIN. Not we’re very sorry this has happened we’ll get you a new pair on the way ASAP just send the other pair back when you can. Nope, I get to waste more of my time babysitting a company that obviously has no idea how to keep customers.
I have a total of five pair of Costas. Two eliminators old style that you can’t get anymore and are the best river fishing glasses I’ve ever worn period ( when something is that good I go ahead and get another just in case). One pair of Wahoo for bright lake conditions. The new pair that is nothing like the old ones for some reason? And my wife has a pair. I agree the older ones I have are top shelf but,,, The last pair of Wahoos I bought scratched right outa the box while cleaning them and have scratched easily. The other new pair has had nothing but issues. I can’t help but wonder if they have started cutting corners thinking their name will keep people coming back. I can get glasses that scratch easily and don’t last long at Wal-Mart for 1/20 the price.
I wrote Costa a letter explaining the situation hoping the right person would read it and make it right. Wrong again….
Two/Three days ago I sent Costa Customer Service an email explaining the situation hoping for an alternative solution. They have yet to reply…
So you might wanna might ask the rep why they treat people this way before you shell out $250+ for a pair of 580’s. They totally screwed up my brand new glasses that were having defective lenses replaced at the factory and sent them back to me in that condition. This is the time when I need my glasses most as you know Zach. They wouldn’t send me a new pair, let me borrow a pair, or even express emotion about what they did. Just send them back and we’ll see what we can do. I’m done with them so when/if I ever hear from them and get my glasses back they should be new. I’ll make you a real good deal on them. I’ll be buying Ocean Waves for my next pair.

MemberI have been struggling with my sun glasses as of late. I have always gone with Columbia glasses with grey polycarbonate lenses and while I love the way they fit they just can’t handle the varying conditions I find myself in now that I have stepped up the amount of fishing I am doing. Zach, I was curious if you got to pick up the Smith Interlock glasses at the FFR show and if so what you thought of them.

MemberGot a call last night from Costa while I was on the golf course so they left a msg. They have decided to go ahead and send me a new replacement pair in the mail.

noneMemberI got the Serengeti Polarmax (poly something, much lighter than glass lenses) sunglasses.
They are very light & comfy. And stylish too!I got the Argon model. The lens is rose & photochromatic too.
Many Polarmax models are on sale too (around $100) so they give tons of bang for the money.

My brown lenses are MP2s; the Frigates they sent over for me to look at (which I am going to buy, btw), are slightly finer-framed but have the same profile.

MemberI got a pair of Smith Interlocks for Christmas and couldn’t be happier. I only have 4 sets of lenses now, but I am much happier than I ever thought I could be. Yellow lenses make a huge difference in low light conditions, so much so that I was almost 2 hours late coming off the river on my last trip because I didn’t notice just how dark it had gotten.

SteveI haven’t had any experience with the prescription glasses as of yet but we do sell a lot of the other styles. The only problems I’ve seen so far with them are if your active wearer meaning you take them on and off a lot some of the lower price frames don’t hold up real well.

MemberI just got a new pair of Action Optics Chambers in the Polachromatic Yellow. I had a pair of their glasses that were 5 or 6 years old. One of the lenses began to delaminate so they gave me credit to buy a new pair with no hassle. Action Optics has done a good job standing behind their product for me and my local shop Choo-Choo Fly and Tackle in Chattanooga, TN did a good job of handling the replacement. Action Optics will get any new purchases that I make going forward.
