MemberPractice…….use a shoe lace and get it figured out.
Personally, I don’t think it is a hard know to tie……but I guess it is because I usually tie my own leaders using this knot.

MemberYeah…It’s not that really need help with the blood knot; I just can’t do it as quickly or as easily as I would like to (or while standing). I’ve practiced it and I just think it’s a pain; particularly in the cold. That’s why I’ve started using this other knot, but I don’t know which is truly better/stronger.
I really want to know the name of that knot that I’ve described above. It’s seriously driving me crazy. I’ve burnt about two work hours trying to track it down on the internet. I suppose I should have called this post “help me identify this knot” because all that I’ve really ascertained (in the two hours) is that it’s not a variation of a blood knot. It’s like a speed surgeons knot or something. Now that I’ve wasted half a day on this thing I really want to run a little experiment to see if it really is stronger than a blood. I kind of doubt it, but they say a surgeons knot can be? stronger than a blood knot and I do believe this is akin to a surgeons knot.

Try the Double Unit knot.

Membera blood knot is basically 2 cinch knots, just tie a cinch knot and then thread the other end through and spin the first around in your fingers then finish the knot and put the first tag end in your teeth then pull… Or just use double sourgeons which is way easier 😉

MemberSorry Patrick, but a blood knot is not two clinch knots. Tying two clinch knots together is very weak, because there is such a small area on the connection that a lot of abrasion will occur at that point.

MemberAlso, and I’m not trying to argumentative or anything, but Patrick is probably talking about a doubled multi overhand knot.

MemberI’m with Lando once you tie it enough it’s an easy knot. I use my teeth to hold tag ends so I can reposition my fingers.

MemberAlso, and I’m not trying to argumentative or anything, but Patrick is probably talking about a doubled multi overhand knot. A doubled surgeons knot is tied with a bite and used to create a loop, and what fisherman call a surgeons knot is most commonly water knot or doubled overhand (if you only go through the loop once), or if you go through the loop more than once its a cove knot, or a doubled multi overhand knot.
Are you sure you’re not mixing a “surgeon’s knot” and a “surgeon’s loop knot”?
