Welcome Leonard! Curious as to why you do most of your fishing at night? And are we talking about the early part of the night or the middle of the night?

love that night fishing….used to do it a lot on the Bull shoals stretch….you hear some wild stuff out there at night, need to do it again soon.
    Nice fish

Lake Tanycomo is the first place I ever casted a flyrod….good memories there, thats where I caught the bug

Nice fish Leonard! Are you fishing mostly flat water or moving water? What is your approach? Do you have some special light or is a poke and hope approach? As you can tell I am intrigued to say the least. Let’s here how you do it!

    Night fishing is a blast..

Imagine going to the lake at 10pm (at night)..

gearing up.. putting on your waders.. tying on a 3x tippet and looking around in your fly box for a big streamer (olive or black).

put your light on and heading toward your favorite hole..

its deep, got a little current, and a nice rock or two in there. That day you saw a 23in brown laying in there but would only move out of the way,  when the fly got to close to him.
As you look around and get your bearings… it is a perfect night as you look up and see just a sliver of a crecent moon off  in the distance you see a shoot star zipping across the sky..

you start to strip out about 20 feet of line to began you first cast. Your Fly hits the water and you began to strip out another 15-20 feet of line.  You take ahold  of you fly line and began to strip the fly back toward the tip of the rod.. then it happens a quick solid bump.. You set the hook and its a miss..

You pick your line up off the water and began to send it back out. it settles on the water for a second or two. Then you move it with a couple of 6-12 in strips to draw up the loose line. BAM.. fish on..

It doesnt get no better then that!!

as you look around and see no one else there you realize you are the only one on the water and 3-4 hours later you have almost top your best day ever fishing.. at night..

    As for as equipment…

a good fly rod (5-7wt).. a nice line.. and a solid tippet. and a nice head lamp..
a good choice of streamers in size 2-12.. (leeches, woolies, sculpins)
and good assortment of nymph (like a stone fly.. they hatch at night)
I could go on and on

the biggest key to night fishing is knowing the water you are fishing… if it dangerous day the day.. at night I wont even try it..

Lake Taneycomo is a tailwater.. Lots of GREAT wading water . most of it is between 1′ deep up to about 6-7foot.. although there is a few deeper holes.

All those fish I posted was from Nov. (week of Thanksgiving). It was right at the end of the brown spawn.  Right now we are dealing with high water. so Im using a glow in the dark indicator/ midge/ scud dropper …
    **** glowing indicator****

here are some of the night flies I like to use and have great secess on..
